Snakes in a church!

6/23/2015

St Matthew's, Florence, is in the process of working with the St Clair Region Conservation Authority and local wetlands owner Gary Eagleson to move a nest of Eastern Milk Snakes. Eastern Milks are Species At Risk, so although excited (okay, and startled) to find them in the entry and cellar, the human congregation is not prepared to abandon the building to them just yet. Gary and the Authority are helping with the relocating. The webmaster is sparing you a photo on this page, but if you would like one, just comment below with contact information. Happy to send it.
Here is the link to the Huron Church News story (complete with photo!): Oh, for goodness snake
The 2016 update is that all is well. Snakes are a "better mouse trap" and took care of our mice before hitting the road. It was a fond farewell.

On Sunday, May 31, five young people from the parish were confirmed at a lovely service in Chatham that saw a total of 14 from the deanery confirmed in all. They are Andrew Marvell (in blue shirt and tie), Charles Cofell (in brown stripes) and Sierenna Cofell (in black and white on the far right) of Church of the Advent, Ridgetown, and Mackenzie Sewell (in black, back row) and Hunter Sewell (in white, middle row) of St Matthew's, Florence. Bishop Terry (in red and gold...) and Fr John (in the Guatemalan stole) are pictured with the confirmandi. Carloads from the parish attended in support.
